Islam and the Surrounding Nations: A Biblical Plot to Destroy Israel

The Bible mentions Persia, which is modern day Iran. It clearly prophesies about a future time when surrounding nations—many of which are now Islamic—will unite to destroy Israel. These ancient prophecies offer insight into a spiritual conflict that spans centuries and continues to escalate in our modern world. The Word of God reveals that this hostility is not only political or territorial—it’s deeply spiritual. Below are key prophecies where the Bible outlines this coalition and its ultimate failure against God’s chosen people.

1. Psalm 83 – A Confederacy Against Israel

"They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee." (Psalm 83:4-5 KJV) This Psalm describes a conspiracy by neighboring nations to completely destroy Israel.
The enemies listed include Edom (southern Jordan), Ishmaelites (Arab peoples), Moab (central Jordan), Ammon (northern Jordan), Amalek (southern Israel), the Philistines (Gaza), and Tyre (Lebanon). Today, these regions are either Islamic or heavily influenced by Islamic ideology. Many scholars believe this Psalm describes either a future war or an ongoing spiritual strategy to erase Israel from existence.

2. Ezekiel 38–39 – The War of Gog and Magog

"Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them... Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee." (Ezekiel 38:5-6 KJV) This prophecy outlines a massive end-times invasion of Israel by a coalition of nations led by "Gog" of the land of Magog.
The key players—Persia (modern Iran), Cush (Sudan), Put (Libya), Gomer and Togarmah (regions of Turkey and Central Asia)—are all now Muslim-majority nations. They are united in their hatred of Israel and will march against her. But God supernaturally defeats them with earthquakes, fire, and confusion. This shows God’s protective hand over Israel and His judgment against those who rise against His people.

3. Zechariah 12:2-3 – All Nations Gather Against Jerusalem

"Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about... And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces..." (Zechariah 12:2-3 KJV) In the last days, Jerusalem becomes the epicenter of global conflict.
This prophecy says that all nations will be drawn into a confrontation over Jerusalem, and any who try to move against it will be severely judged. This global pressure and hatred against Israel is already manifesting in modern times, especially through Islamic alliances and United Nations resolutions that constantly condemn the Jewish state.

4. Revelation 20:7–9 – Satan Deceives the Nations

"And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea." (Revelation 20:8 KJV)
At the end of Christ’s 1,000-year reign on Earth, Satan is released and immediately deceives the nations to once again surround and attack God’s people. Though this event happens after the Millennium, it mirrors the same rebellious spirit seen in previous end-time conflicts. It highlights that the true source of the hatred against Israel is Satanic. In our time, we can already see this deception taking root through ideologies and movements that seek Israel’s annihilation—many of which are found in radical Islamic beliefs.

5. A Spiritual War Cloaked in Politics and Religion

Though the names of nations have changed and new religions like Islam have emerged since the Bible was written, the spiritual conflict remains the same. Satan has always sought to destroy God's covenant people, Israel, and he uses willing nations and leaders to carry out this agenda. The growing hostility from many Islamic nations today is not a coincidence—it is a fulfillment of long-foretold biblical prophecies. But God has promised to defend Israel and ultimately bring His justice upon the nations that rise against her.

Conclusion

The Bible paints a clear picture of a time when Israel will be surrounded by enemies determined to wipe her off the map. Many of the ancient nations mentioned now align with modern Muslim territories. As these prophecies unfold before our eyes, believers are called to watch, pray, and understand that God is still in control. In the end, it is God who fights for Israel—and He will prevail.
