born Again?

What Does It Mean to Be Born Again?
The phrase “born again” is one of the most important concepts in Christianity, yet it is often misunderstood. To be "born again" means to experience a spiritual rebirth—a transformation of the soul that comes through faith in Jesus Christ. This transformation is not physical but spiritual, and it marks the beginning of a new life in God.
Biblical Foundation
The term "born again" comes from the words of Jesus in John 3:3, where He told Nicodemus, a religious leader of the time:
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Nicodemus was confused. He asked how someone could be born again when they are old. Jesus explained that He was not speaking of a physical birth, but of a spiritual one:
“Unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” (John 3:5)
This spiritual rebirth happens when a person repents of their sins, believes in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and receives the Holy Spirit. It is a work of God in the heart of a person, not something we can achieve by our own efforts.
Why Must We Be Born Again?
Every human being is born with a sinful nature. As Paul writes in Romans 3:23,
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Because of sin, we are spiritually dead—separated from God. We may be physically alive, but our spirit is lifeless without Him. To be “born again” is to be made alive spiritually. It’s how we enter into a right relationship with God and receive eternal life.
What Happens When You Are Born Again?
1. Your sins are forgiven. (1 John 1:9)
2. You receive the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)
3. You become a new creation. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
4. You are adopted into God’s family. (John 1:12-13)
5. You begin a new life led by the Spirit. (Romans 8:14)
This new birth isn’t about joining a religion or following a set of rules—it’s about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
How Can You Be Born Again?
The Bible says in Romans 10:9,
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
to be born again
1. Repent of your sins – turn away from your old life.
2. Believe in Jesus – trust that He died for your sins and rose again.
3. Invite Him into your life – surrender your heart to Him and follow Him daily.
This step of faith is where the spiritual rebirth begins. It's the doorway into the Kingdom of God.
