Ancient Steps Linked to Jesus’ Healing Unearthed in Jerusalem
B15
Archaeologists have uncovered steps at the Ancient Pool of Siloam in Jerusalem that had been hidden for more than 2,000 years. This site is historically significant as the location where Jesus healed a blind man, as described in the New Testament. The pool itself is also referenced in the Old Testament, highlighting its long-standing importance.
Details of the Discovery
The excavation revealed roughly eight steps that had not been visible for millennia. This milestone comes as the Israel Antiquities Authority, the Israel National Parks Authority, and the City of David Foundation announced that the Ancient Pool of Siloam will now be accessible to the public for the first time in over 2,000 years. Until this point, only a small section of the site had been fully excavated.
Historical Significance
The Pool of Siloam originally spanned approximately 1.25 acres and was an integral part of Jerusalem’s ancient water system. Archaeologists expect that more areas will be revealed over time, as the site holds deep significance for both Christians and Jews.
Confirmation of Scripture
Rev. Johnnie Moore, president of the Congress of Christian Leaders, commented: “In the Pool of Siloam, we find history preserved for us, revealed at just the right time. Theologically, geographically, and politically, it confirms Israel’s enduring connection to Jerusalem. While some discoveries are speculative, this one provides undeniable evidence of the Bible’s historical narrative and its people, Israel.”
An Ancient Structure
Built around 2,700 years ago, the Pool of Siloam was part of Jerusalem’s water system, providing a functional and spiritual landmark for generations. Today, its rediscovery offers both historical insight and a tangible connection to the biblical events associated with Jesus’ ministry.
